What is the Bluethumb Art Prize?

The Bluethumb Art Prize has fast become one of Australia's most popular art prizes. It attracted over 2,500 entries in 2020 and is expected to at least double that number this year.

The first ever Bluethumb Art Prize was held in 2017, with the winner taking away a $10,000 cash prize. It's only gotten bigger and better from there: More awards, more cash prizes, more opportunities for artists, and double the overall winner’s prize money make it the art prize to take artists’ careers to the next level.

What are the key requirements for entering Bluethumb Art Prize 2021?

We keep it simple and easy for all Aussie artists to enter the Bluethumb Art Prize. Here are the key requirements for the entries:

  • Entry is free and the prize is non-acquisitive.

  • The winners are selected by the Bluethumb judging panel.

  • To enter you must set up a Bluethumb profile (it’s free) and comply with Bluethumb Ts & Cs.

  • The artworks selected (up to 3 artwork per artist) must be original pieces (not reproductions or prints), listed this year and comply with Bluethumb Ts & Cs.

  • The artwork entered must be available for sale on Bluethumb at the point of entering.

  • The artwork must be exclusively available on Bluethumb throughout the prize period (any artwork sold off platform will become ineligible).

  • Art entered may be sold on Bluethumb during the competition. This will not affect judging or your eligibility to win.

  • The artwork does not need to be entered with a chosen category. Bluethumb will determine which category the artwork fits and be as inclusive as possible (e.g. animal artworks may either be included in the portrait or landscape category depending on the composition).

  • Entries open 12pm 8th October 2021. Entries close 11.59pm 31 October 2021 AEST (you can change your entries any time before entries close).

  • Entries that sell during the prize period are still valid, but can be changed. However, if you change from your sold entry, it cannot be reentered.

  • Judging is done online and the Bluethumb selection panel will shortlist the finalists to present to the judging panel.

  • Finalists are announced 9th November 2021.

  • The Overall Winner, Category Awards and Founder’s Award (see below) are announced 18th November 2021 in a COVID-safe online awards ceremony.
