Welcome to Bluethumb! Fantastic Australian artists like yours are why we’re in this business, so we want to do everything we can to help you succeed on the Bluethumb platform.

The following document should tell you everything you need to know to succeed as a gallery on Bluethumb.

Indigenous Art Centres: Please look out for notes directed to you specifically, as sometimes the process may be a little different.

Setting up your Gallery

  1. Make sure you’ve created an account using the email with which you applied to become a gallery. You’ll need to fill in your basic details to be able to use your gallery page, but it won’t be visible to anyone unless you decide to publish an artwork using this account.

  2. Click on ‘Hello, [your name] in the top right corner.

  3. Click on ‘Switch to XXX Gallery’ to start setting up your gallery.

  4. The first time you click this button, you’ll be directed to a set-up page, similar to the one you would have seen when creating your artist profile. See below:

  1. Fill out all your details accordingly. If your gallery already has a website then feel free to copy and paste the ‘about’ section to your Bluethumb profile.

  2. We recommend that you use the gallery logo as your profile photo, and a nice, large image representative of the gallery for the cover image. Perhaps a group shot of the artists, an image of the gallery itself or even just a photo of the local scenery.

  3. After you’ve done all of this, click ‘save’ and you’ll be taken to your gallery profile. Remember you can always edit your profile by clicking ‘Edit Profile’.

4. Once you’ve completed your profile with at least 3 artists and three artworks for each artist, you’ll need to let us know so that we can ‘activate’ your gallery and make it visible to everyone on Bluethumb!

Adding a new artist

  1. To add an artist to the gallery, simply click ‘add artist’ in the top right section of the page.

  2. If the artist is not already on Bluethumb, select ‘add new artist’ in the pop-up box that appears.

This will bring up a shortened version of the artist setup, requiring only the artist’s name and last name (it is optional to add their email address and phone number).

Once you have done this, you will notice that the artist’s account is visible on the gallery profile. See below:

In order to complete their profile with a profile photo and artist bio, hover your mouse over their profile and the options ‘edit’ and ‘delete’ will appear. Select ‘edit’ to go to the artist profile set-up page, where you can enter their artist bio (again, copying and pasting from your website is a good idea!) and add a profile photo. See below:

Adding an artist who is already a member of Bluethumb

  1. If the artist is already on Bluethumb, simply select ‘Add Artist’ again, but this time search for their name as it appears on Bluethumb.

  2. Select the artist you’re looking for by clicking the ‘Add’ button. They should then appear as an artist in your gallery.

You will notice that while one of our artists, Sheeraz, has one artwork listed, the gallery itself does not have any artworks. This is because when selecting artists who have already listed themselves on Bluethumb, you need to ‘select’ each of their artworks to include it in the collection. To do so, click on ‘select artworks’ in the menu on the left hand side.

Clicking this button will take you to a list of all your artists’ works. To add an artwork to your gallery, simply tick the box on the right side of the listing.

Uploading Artworks

  1. To upload an artwork, click on ‘upload art’ from your gallery profile.

  2. This will give you the option of choosing which artist you would like to upload art under.

  3. Now, add an artwork as an individual artist normally would. See below -

Things to note:

  • It will ask you to confirm authorship for the artwork – please don’t hesitate to tick this box, as we know that you’re acting on your artists’ behalf.

  • Our price is inclusive of shipping and the standard Bluethumb commission of 30%, so it may first appear as more than you expect.

  • Indigenous Art Centres: In the title, first write the title of the piece and then the catalogue number, separated by a comma. Eg: ‘Three Sisters, BT12345’.

Marking an artwork as ‘sold’

If you happen to sell one of the artworks listed on Bluethumb through your own Gallery, you can simply mark them as sold. To do this:

  1. Go to your gallery profile

  2. Hover your cursor over the artwork you wish to mark as sold, and click on ‘edit’

  3. This will take you back to the same page that you saw when you uploaded the work. To mark it as sold, scroll down to the ‘availability’ section that asks ‘Is this artwork for sale?’. To mark it as sold, simply select ‘Mark as Sold’ from the drop down menu, and then ‘Save’ when you’re done!

What happens when you make a sale

When the gallery makes a sale, you will receive an automatic email notifying you of the sale and asking you to book a courier. You can either use the courier service provided by Bluethumb or choose your own courier arrangements. When you're at this stage, just get in touch with us through the online chat system or at help@bluethumb.com.au and we'll assist you with everything.
